Money Saving Tips

Simple. Thrifty. Living.

It’s the height of summer and you are headed to Vegas for a bachelorette party, AGAIN. Every bride heading to Vegas wants to hit up at least one pool party, so you’ve waxed, tanned, bought three new bikinis and forked over a half a month’s rent on a new trendy cleanse. After all of this, how on earth are you going to pay for entrance and drinks to the hottest pool party, much less a cabana?

Many of the fabulous hotels in Vegas throw epic pool parties both Saturday and Sunday. Typically hotels will charge a cover to the “Party Pools” even on days that are not their promoted pool party. You can easily spend all of your Vegas winnings during an afternoon at the pool, but you don’t have to. Here are some tips to help you curb the cost, so you can spend your money on more important things, like bikinis, espadrilles and vodka.

Scout the location:

Go the the specific pool you want to check out a day prior to the party. Most, if not all will still have a cover, but if you tell the doorman/promoter you want to check it out before you commit to the party tomorrow, they will comp your covers and add in an hour or two of open bar to sweeten the deal.

Make friends with the promoters:

Once that open bar runs out, you may notice promoters walking around with clip boards, they will ask for your email (so you can receive Vegas deals), give them any email and in return they will hand over a drink ticket or two.

By this point you will have been drinking for free in sun for three hours without having to flirt your way into a cabana.

Get on the list:

Now, once you’ve had your fill of club music and sun, make sure you find the doorman that comped your cover and ask if there is a list for tomorrows pool party. Ideally, they will put you on a list and you’ll be set for the next day.

But if they can’t put you on a list, a promoter can. Ask the doorman you’ve made friends with if he knows a promoter (of course he does), mostly likely he will send you to his buddy. If you’re put on the promoter’s list, you typically have to show up a tad early (they will give you a specific time) and you will be ushered into the party with him or her.

Between the two free covers and open bar, you’ll be able to afford another trip to Vegas next month.

  1. It is always better to ask the day before, lists aren’t full yet and hotels want to make sure their parties are are overflowing.
  2. Always ask an employee of the hotel first, they have a bit more pull and can throw in a few drinks for you and your party.
  3. If you don’t succeed the first time, try again, promoters are everywhere in Vegas.
  4. Oh, and don’t forget the sunscreen – mini skirts and red legs don’t mix.

I’ve visited most of the pools in Vegas, and here are the ones with the best parties:

Cosmopolitan: This is one of the wildest parties on the strip. This is the daytime version of the famous Marquee nightclub and it often offers some of the best DJs and hottest guys and girls on the strip. It also has comfortable cabanas and a full bar with service. The Marquee also has bachelorette specific-specials, but those can cost you. You can get a deal on your stay at the Cosmopolitan here.

Planet Hollywood: The Pleasure Pools at Planet Hollywood are known for their young, party-crazy crowds. They feature themed days, like a bikini contest, and spin some of the best music on the strip. There are two huge pools, so there is plenty of room to get your party on. You can get 25% off your stay at the Planet Hollywood here.

Venetian: Tao Beach is the pool extension of the popular Tao bar at the Venetian. This pool is known for its celebrity sightings and seen-and-be-seen atmosphere. It’s smaller than most of the other pool clubs, so it might be harder to get in, but it is worth the extra effort. Get a deal on a pool experience at the Venetian here.

Encore: The Encore Beach Club is one of the hottest pool destinations on the strip. First, it is in one of the swankiest hotels on the strip. It has three-tiered pools, a gaming pavilion, and oversized lily pads that allow guests to simply float in the water. The Beach Club also has a slew of celebrity house music DJs that spin every weekend during the summer. You can get deals on your stay at the Encore here.

  • We have a party of 20 going down to Vegas July 7th – July 9th celebrating 4 Birthdays! We’re planning on going to Wet Rebublic July 8th. With our crowd, WE WON’T HAVE A PROBLEM hitting $12,000 – $13,000 total, but we need separate tabs. Any suggestions? Kind Regards, Karen Jameson

    • Hi Karen!
4 birthdays?! Sounds like a blast! Have you contacted Wet Republic? From my experience they are happy to spilt tabs as long as you meet the minimum bar tab. I would also let your server know prior to ordering. If you are willing to wing it, wait until the day of- you will cut your cabana fee by at least 30%. If you do reserve ahead of time, don’t be afraid to negotiate the price of the cabana. Let them know you will be spending well above the minimum and you’d like the fee reduced. Cheers!
