It’s October, which means it’s time for Halloween and pumpkin spice lattes! With the holiday season around the corner, now is a great time to start the shopping (yes, before Black Friday). So what are the best items to buy in October?
We all know the best time to buy a Halloween costume are the days following Halloween. Most stores will slash prices up to 75 percent, however that does you little good when it comes to this year’s costume. By waiting to purchase your costume until the week leading up to Halloween you will find discounts, ranging from 20 percent to 50 percent off. Don’t want to risk a picked-over selection? Online sites such as Halloween Express are fighting for your business by offering up to $50 off your purchase, plus 15 percent off first-time orders, and free shipping.
Like last month, October is a great time to buy a new car. The 2016 inventory has arrived and dealerships are dropping prices on 2015 models in order to make room for the new cars. If you are in the market, don’t wait too long, come November and December selection will be scarce.
Looking to travel overseas? Now is a great time to travel to Europe, because October is the start of the low season in Europe. This means you will find better deals on hotels, plus you’ll find shorter lines at restaurants and museums. Bonus: the U.S. dollar is quite strong right now. Pack those bags!
I’m sure patio furniture is the last thing on your mind, BUT retailers are attempting to clear leftover inventory from September. In fact, SEARS is offering 70 percent off outdoor furniture and accessories. Make sure you don’t wait until next month though; last year’s data suggests only a 40 percent discount come November.
The back-to-school sales are done, but according to Real Simple, retailers typically have a surplus of jeans. Macy’s is just one retailer that offers huge savings on jeans this month, including Levis. With the weather turning, now is the perfect time to stock up on jeans.
October is not the month to buy a new pair of skis, however you can still get a decent discount on camping gear and outdoor equipment. Plus, you may still be able to try out your new gear if the weather remains warm. Stores such as The North Face and Columbia Sportswear, offer discounts on sleeping bags, tents and outdoor wear.
There are a number of deals to be had this month. However, if you are in the market for some big ticket electronics, you are better off waiting until Black Friday.
