Money Saving Tips

Simple. Thrifty. Living.

It’s officially the start of summer, which means backyard barbecues, weddings, and Father’s Day. Warmer weather brings consumers out, but what are the best items to buy in the month of June? Here are the top deals to be had this month.

With Father’s Day around the corner, all large retailers offer a number of discounts. Home Depot leads the way with significant discounts on tools, including hand, power, and air tools. If tools aren’t your thing, you can still find discounts on men’s clothing, cologne, and accessories. But the deeper discounts will be found in the home improvement section. If you have your eye on a new power drill make sure to purchase it before Father’s Day. Prices tend to go up towards the end of the month.

Looking for an affordable tropical vacation spot? Prices for the Caribbean and Mexico drop drastically due to less than stellar weather. If you don’t mind some clouds and humidity, you’ll save at least 50 percent on high season prices. BookIt.com is offering 50 percent off Mexican resorts and up to 60 percent off hotels in Jamaica. Your wallet and your skin will thank you!

With wedding season in full swing, various retailers are offering sales on dishware and cookware. If you are attending a wedding this summer now is the time to buy your gifts. Popular stores such as Macy’s offer some of their best kitchen sales this month.

Looking to get beach-body ready? Summer months aren’t the best time for gyms, as New Year’s resolutions have long been forgotten. This means it’s a great time to join a gym as you may be able to get a good deal on a membership. In fact, 24 Hour Fitness is offering $0 initiation fee plus the first month free. Along the same line, you will also find discounts on gym equipment and activewear.

Even though school just let out, retailers are starting their back-to-school laptop sales this month. Whether your computer is on the fritz or you are sending your child off to college, now is the time purchase a new laptop. Apple starts their back-to-school education discount which offers students a $50-$100 store credit with specific purchases. However, retailers like Best Buy will often match these prices if not beat them.

Don’t be had by retailers’ summer advertising; avoid purchasing items such as summer clothing, sandals, sunglasses, and grills. Retailers may run sales on the above items but if you are looking for the cheapest prices wait until July (summer clothing) and August (barbecues).
