While it’s difficult to know what to buy your parents as they get older, it’s still possible to show your love for them with just the right gift for a birthday or holiday. Here are some great gift ideas they’ll love and actually use.

It may seem impersonal, but many seniors don’t eat out often or treat themselves to fun activities because they’re worried about money. Giving them a gift card to a restaurant, movie theater, supermarket, concert or department store is a great way to free up a little extra space in their monthly budget.

Seniors need to stay in good shape to maintain their good health. Providing a membership to a gym or fitness center is a great way to ensure older adults not only stay active, but engage with their peers. Many gyms offer classes specifically designed for seniors where they can get exercise and build friendships.

Creating a customized photobook online is easy and quite affordable. And don’t all grandparents love getting pictures of the grandkids? Photobooks are a great gift older adults will cherish for years to come.

Tech gadgets are available that allow you to distribute senior adults’ medications remotely. Load the pills into the device and schedule them to be dispensed into a medication tray using an online app. It’s a great way to ensure your loved one stays independent as long as possible.

Personal emergency response systems (PERS) are becoming more sophisticated and can now report lots of information. These bracelets or pendants allow a senior adult to summon help when needed. Some even track falls and alert emergency crews if one is detected.

Seniors need to know how to use technology to move around in the modern world. A class or a book to help them understand how to use the internet and smartphones would be a useful gift to help senior adults put technology to good use.

Buying gifts for senior adults can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. This list will help you shop for just the right thing.
